stumbleupon

while searching for a dance studio to attend for the duration of my stay (with help from my mother who is not a "she" and totally lovely)

i stumbled upon a website called Life After Cubes. It is the couple's: Jason Demant & Sharon Duckworth's accounts on living a life abroad in Asia. With a little searching, I found out that they infact have spent time living in South Korea. When looking through the articles tagged, I saw this little gem entitled:

9 things Koreans do that make me laugh.

obviously, i clicked it.

here is an excerpt from it. click the link below to read the entire article and have a great laugh.

Wear Shirts with Ridiculous English Phrases – It’s my understanding that most Koreans are able to read English and if that’s the case then many Koreans are hopefully also laughing at the ridiculous shirts people wear. My two favorite examples – 1) An older woman (age 60’s – 70’s) was wearing a shirt that said “Who the fuck is Mick Jagger?”. 2) A roughly 15-year old girl (could have been 10 or could have been 30) was wearing a shirt that said “Cum again”. I really hope they have no clue what their shirts mean.

Couples wear the same clothing together -- couples will literally wear the same obnoxious t-shirt, shoes, pants, or all of the above and then go out in public together.

When I don’t understand what they’re saying in Korean, they will just yell it louder… in Korean -- Sometimes they even start yelling it slower, as if enunciating another language will suddenly make me understand it.

Men carry their girlfriends purse – I won’t begin to guess why men do this (but, Sharon has), all I know is seeing a semi-masculine dude carrying a pink lacey handbag is ridiculous looking.

Korean “exercises” –  At all of these workout parks, you’ll find Korean men and women sitting down and swinging their legs back and forth, standing up and doing shoulder circles, or just plain swinging their arms around the air every which way. This apparently is what they constitute as “exercise”.

ALL OF THESE THINGS ARE TRUE.
IT IS SO ACCURATE.

thanks for the totally honest account of living in asia, jason and sharon!
and thanks for being awesome, mother. love you.

hehe, so cute!

says something about education and money... hmm...

FOOD. YUMMY KOREAN FOOD. I LOVE IT ALL.

Apparently Korea loves the P-G family... lots of things resembling us here.

Today I went to visit my school which is the Busan Design School. It is an arts school that focuses on Pottery, Photography, Interior Design, and Computer Design. The people were very helpful, and I can not wait to start going to school { I KNOW I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT I AM SAYING IT EITHER. THESE ARE DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES, PEOPLE. I AM IN KOREA }

I am taking photography! Who would have guessed!
**Also, funny side note: Miss Ahn told me she was worried about the boys! HAHA! She told me they will be 'giving me alot of attention'. Why do I not feel offended by that...**

Updates on anything school related will be coming as they happen!

interesting facts if you are awesome enough to care:

- I love shopping here. Everthing is so cheap!
- DO NOT DRINK TEMPLE WATER IF YOU ARE NOT USED TO THE WATER YET. IT WILL MAKE YOU BED RIDDEN AND SICK FOR 2 DAYS. EWWY.
- the korean word for 'rain' is pronounced 'pee'

the end. goodnight.

Arrival and Such

I AM FINALLY IN KOREA. HOLY CRAP!

These past few days have been a crazy whirlwind of emotions. It feels so surreal! I can't really believe that I am doing this!

A quick recap of the past few days:
-Left on August 24th. That was totally the hardest thing I have ever had to do. Instead of saying "goodbye", I just said "see you later". I honestly think that this little difference made it a tiny bit easier~ It's factual though, it is not a true goodbye.
-Had 12 hour plane ride. NOT COOL, not cool. The stewardesses were so cute! They all are dressed so well, I love how classy Koreans are.
-6.5 HOUR LAYOVER. Awkwardly slept in the airport. Children stood near my face when I woke up.
- Arrived and met my host family August 25! They are the kindest people ever! I can't wait to get to know them better.
- August 26th ; had traditional korean dress fitting. Mine is going to have a burgandy top and gold bottom. I can't wait to see how it turns out!
Pictured below is an example of the dress, called a Hanbok

-AFTER THE DRESS FITTING, I SLEPT.
-August 27th was my birthday. Mr and Mrs Yang, and JungJu (my host sister) bought me a cake, sang me happy birthday, and gave me 100,000 won (about $100.00 Canadian). JungJu and I went shopping at the world's largest department store, Shinsengae Centumcity Department Store. It was so amazing! I can't even begin to explain it! So many stores and shoes. Heaven? Yep.
^^ after shopping and dinner at the Outback Steakhouse; SLEPT.

And this bring me to today; I don't know what I am going to end up doing!
Korea is amazing, the people are amazing, and I can't wait for more of this adventure!

annyeonghi gaseyo for now! <3
[goodbye]

..Visa..?
VISA!

YEAH IT'S HERE!
After many conversations with a cute Korean girl who works at the Korean Consulate, I finally have my visa! My plane ticket is also on its way to being booked. The date that I am leaving is...

August 24!

GWAHHH

So far, I've only had a few crying sessions..  hopefully my party, which is {tentatively} planned for the 12th will cheer me up! I sure know that swimming with my friends last week did! Here are some awesome shots that Jesus captured for me!

I love my friends, I am going to miss them so much!! { love }
